Beringia is the name given to the Bering land bridge and areas of both Alaska and Siberia which bordered upon it. The seal features a simple, brown line drawing of a Woolly Mammoth (the school's mascot), with text reading, "University of Beringia," &;ESTD 20000 BCE," and the schools motto: "TREAD LIGHTLY UPON THE LAND." The image has a primitive-ish feel to it - after all the school was established 22000 years ago, long before modern materials and printers.
