"The Unicorn in Captivity" is the most iconic piece from the seven "Hunt of the Unicorn" tapestries, dating back to 1495-1505. This late Gothic masterpiece depicts a mythical white unicorn resting peacefully within a circular wooden enclosure, tethered to a pomegranate tree—a symbol of fertility and marriage. The backdrop features a stunning "millefleurs" (thousand flowers) style, showcasing over a hundred species of realistically rendered plants. While the original designer remains unknown, this work, currently housed in The Met Cloisters, represents the pinnacle of medieval textile art, blending legendary mysticism with exquisite botanical detail.
