It features wetlands of outstanding importance for migratory water birds, including globally threatened species, among them the extremely rare Siberian white crane, the Dalmatian pelican,the Pallas’s fish eagle and the critically endangered Saiga antelope. Korgalzhyn State Nature Reserve is located west of the city of Nur-Sultan. It protects about 5'432 km2 (2'097 sq mi) of lakes, steppes and semi deserts.
