One-pound box, Prepared by Uncle Tom Cereal Co., Marshalltown, Iowa. Circa. 1915. After Harriet Beecher Stowe's 1853 novel, "Uncle Tom's Cabin," was published, American advertisers soon jumped on the bandwagon by incorporation stereotypical 'Uncle Tom' caricatures portraying black men as faithful, happily submissive servants. The Tom caricature, like the Mammy caricature, was born in ante-bellum America in the defence of slavery, neither of which was truthful, but just a new way of utilizing black folks to generate money for white commercialism.

I was originally happy about my purchase and Nana loved the gift. HOWEVER, the description specifically says that these are microwave and dishwasher safe, BUT the first time Nana put this mug in the dishwasher it was destroyed. Not impressed..
