Title : 戸山の原（Toyama no hara / とやま の はら / Fields of Toyam, from the series “Twelve Scenes of Tokyo”) 「東京十二題」より Toyama is the name of an area in the middle of Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo. In the Yedo period (1603-1868), it was the residence of the Owari Tokugawa family, and after the Meiji period (1868-1912), it was the site of an army firing range and a military drill ground. Artist :川瀬巴水 (Kawase Hasui / かわせ はすい) 川瀬巴水 (Kawase Hasui (May 18, 1883 - November 7, 1957)) was a woodblock print artist active during the Taisho and Showa periods. He established the world of new prints in an attempt to revive the declining Japanese ukiyoe prints. His works were highly acclaimed overseas, and he has been called the "Hiroshige of the Showa period.
