McMurdo Station is a United States research station located on the southern coast of Ross Island. During the austral summer the station has as many as 1,300 researchers, maintenance, support, etc. people working and living there. Any flights to South Pole Station stop at McMurdo to refuel. The station was established in 1956 and has been in continuous operation since then. If you are interested in the U.S. presence in Antarctica, read the Antarctic Sun online: http://antarcticsun.usap.gov/. This a colourful and fun mug about a dot on the surface on our Earth.
