Two Girls - Art Nouveau - Jugendstil Postcard
This rare and wonderful image was the cover art for the 1896 No. 16 issue of Jugend Magazine, the famous German weekly publication century that launched the German Art Nouveau movement known as "Jugendstil," which means "youth style." The magazine was started in 1896 by journalist George Hirth, one of the most influential thinkers in Munich at the turn of the 19th century. It was widely popular and featured the key artists of the Art Nouveau era. This image shows two girls, one standing on a tree branch. The artist is J.R. Witzel.
