Tsolias (Evzones) with fustanella Greece souvenir 2 Inch Round Button

Fustanella (φουστανέλλα) is a traditional pleated skirt-like garment that is also referred to as a kilt worn by men of many nations in the Balkans In Greece, a short version of the fustanella is worn by ceremonial military units such as the Evzones. You may also call someone wearing the traditional fustanella and tsarouchi (the curved shoe with the pon-pon) a tsolias (τσολιάς). The Evzones unit was founded in December 1868 as a combatant and ceremonial force. Its ceremonial role gradually took over other duties as time passed. In 1974 (after the restoration of democracy) their group took the name of Presidential Guard and is now guarding the Greek Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Presidential Mansion in Athens.
