Trafalgar Square Postcard

Trafalgar Square stands mid-way between London's west end shopping and the city. A statue of Admiral Nelson towers over the square, commemorating his victory at Trafalgar in the 19th century. The square is a pedestrian precinct, elegantly laid out with fountains and statues at each corner, and is overlooked from the north by the facade of the National Gallery. To the west lies theatre-land, and to the east/south there are views towards Westminster and Big Ben, and the Mall towards Buckingham Palace. Taken on a sunny summer afternoon, this image looks across the square showing its elegance at the fountains. Visitors can be seen relaxing on the bund walls, savouring the atmosphere of the spot.
