This postcard features Touro Synagogue, Congregation Jeshuat Israel located at 85 Touro Street, Newport, Newport County, Rhode Island, U.S.A. It was built in 1763 and is the oldest synagogue still standing in the United States of America. It is also the only surviving synagogue building in the U.S. dating to the colonial era. In 1946, it was declared a National Historic Site. It was designed by British architect and Rhode Island resident Peter Harrison and is considered his most notable work.
