Toulouse-Lautrec - The Bed Tapestry

The Bed (Le Lit), painted around 1892, offers a quieter counterpart to In Bed, The Kiss: two women rest close together beneath a rich red coverlet, their faces turned toward one another in calm, tender repose rather than passionate embrace. Warm tones and loose, painterly brushwork give the scene an intimate, unguarded stillness. Painted in oil on cardboard mounted on wood, the work is held by the Musée d’Orsay.
