Tokyo Streetlights: Ginza Postcard
Miyuki-dori, Ginza - Miyuki Street in the upscale Ginza district of Tokyo was named to commemorate the fact that the Meiji Emperor frequently used the road to travel from the Imperial Palace to the duck hunting grounds of Hama-rikyu (now known as Hama-rikyu Gardens). Miyuki in this context means "royal outing". The streetlights along the street have been decorated with golden phoenixes since 1937 to celebrate this imperial connection.
