This 'Block 1' configuration of the Space Launch System boasts a maximum of 8.8 million pounds of thrust – the most powerful rocket launched to date by NASA since the Apollo program. In Greek mythology, Artemis was the daughter of Zeus and Leto and the twin sister of Apollo. Artemis is the Olympian goddess of the hunt and the moon, among other things. She was depicted as a huntress carrying a quiver with arrows and holding a bow. The name of this piece pays homage to this, as well as to the fact that this mission is the first in a planned series of increasingly ambitious missions.
