Tiger in a Tropical Storm (Surprised) Two-Tone Coffee Mug

This beautiful image, called "Tiger in a Tropical Storm (Surprised)," is by French Post Impressionist and Naïve artist Henri Rousseau. In this painting, Rousseau depicts a tropic forest with a tiger startled by lightning. It's an oil on canvas and was painted in 1891. It was shown in 1891 and although one serious artist wrote a favourable review and said it was not to be missed, most art critiques and the general public laughed at it and called it childish. It t was more than a decade before Rousseau returned to painting jungles. Today Henri Rousseau is regarded as the greatest of the 'modern primitive' painters. His tropical forest paintings are his most popular paintings.
