Tichit Mauritania Postcard

Tichit is a historic desert oasis town located in the Tagant Region of central Mauritania. It is one of the famed “four cities” of the ancient trans-Saharan trade routes, known for its distinctive stone architecture and its role as a cultural and commercial hub in the Sahara. The town is surrounded by dramatic desert landscapes, including cliffs, sand dunes, and seasonal palm-filled valleys that briefly come alive after rare rains. Its old ksour (fortified villages) reflect centuries of adaptation to harsh desert life and remain an important heritage site.
