Three Karafuku Uchiwa Medium Gift Bag

The crest of a Japanese uchiwa fan. While 'Mitsu Karafuku Uchiwa' is also known as 'Mitsu Kara Uchiwa', we follow the naming convention used in 'Mon Daisen'. Some sources, such as 'Nihon no Monsho' edited by Kosaku Ito, categorize it as 'Gunbai Uchiwa' and differentiate it from 'Uchiwa'. Also known as 'Kara Uchiwa'. Historically, these fans were made by applying lacquer to woven bamboo or washi paper, with some also made from iron or leather. Originating from China, they were used as command tools by warlords during the Sengoku period. Depictions of these fans can be seen in emakimono scrolls illustrating annual events and festivals like the Kamo Festival.
