The Shipwreck c1772 by French Painter Claude-Joseph Vernet (1714 - 1789); known for painting, drawing and engraving in the Neoclassic style. The shipwreck is one of several powerful paintings by Vernet showing the aftermath and tragedy beset on the passengers of a sailing vessel caught in the mist of a powerful sea storm as their ship is destroyed by powerful waves and the survivors struggle to get onto land.
