The Ship Portpatrick 1900s
Thomas G Purvis The Ship Portpatrick 1900s
The Portpatrick was a steel ship built in 1889 by Russell & Co., Port Glasgow, for Crawford & Rowat Glasgow. The ship was made in the late 19th century or early 20th century.
On November 26, 1900, the principal light keeper fired a rocket to summon the lifeboat from Portpatrick for a fishing boat in distress.
According to a newspaper article from 1902, news was received in Sydney that the screw tug Champion was in possession of the Port Patrick. The Champion is a twin-screw model bow steel tug powered by two 12V-71 Detroit Diesel engines.
