The Guardian Angel Chapel in ponte de Lima Postcard
The Guardian Angel Chapel (Capela do Anjo da Guarda) is a quadrangular shaped building on the north bank of the River Lima, close to the old bridge. It is believed to date from the 13th century, but has been rebuilt several times due to flooding and partial collapse. In the 18th century reconstruction, Baroque features were added. It houses a beautiful granite sculpture which, some say, is of São Miguel do Abrigo, holding hand scales intended for weighing souls and their sins. It’s an intriguing mystery and worth a visit.
