The Fury of Achilles Poster

This is a reproduction of “The Fury of Achilles” of 1737 by Charles Antoine Coypel. Oil on Canvas, 147 x 195 cm in the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersberg, Russia. Coypel was born to a French Artist who was First Painter to the king, a position to which he attained in 1747age the age of fifty-one years. He received many commissions for the Palais de Versailles and was director of the Academie Royale. He also had literary talents as he produced two tragedies, several comedies and some poetry. He died in 1752. His “Fury of Achilles”was produced when he was forty-one years old and depicts the passage in the Iliad where Achilles rages across the Plain of Troy and even fights with the River Scamander.
