The Fish Rocks T-Shirt

There are the Fish Rocks near Trona California From local scuttlebutt the Fish Rocks were painted by a person, named Joe Fox, then a Ridgecrest local, sometime in the late 1930's. He and his family noticed the similarity between the shape of the rocks and fish heads, and painted eyes and teeth on them. Shortly, many local residents began painting their own "graffiti" on the surrounding rocks and the area quickly became an eyesore. After a time, a group of citizens, including some Boy Scouts, went out to the area and painted the rocks with a colour close to the natural colour of the rocks, to mitigate the eyesore. The area was now free of graffiti and pleasing to the eye. However local residents missed the "Fish Rocks" and there was a grassroots outcry to have them restored. They were restored, but with the addition of the restorers name along with her high school and graduation year. Later, when more graffiti began to appear, Nancy Reed volunteered to go out and paint over the extra graffiti along with painting out her own name, high school and graduation year. As it is now, residents are very happy with having the Fish Rocks as a local landmark and keeping any other graffiti removed as it crops up.
