The Family of Niccolò III d'Este (1383-1441), Marquess (or Marquis) of Ferrara. Niccolò inherited the rule of the city when he was only 10 years old. He was married three times, and sired more than thirty children, most of whom were illegitimate. This is a page from the family's genealogical album, the Genealogia dei principi d'Este, c.1474-79, depicting Niccolò, his wives and five of his natural sons in portrait medallions.
