The ancient Chimú resided on a strip of desert on the northern coast of Peru. The rivers in the region carved a series of fertile valley plains, which were very flat and well-suited to irrigation. The Chimu were urban dwellers and apparently had a powerful military and a complex, well-organized social system.
The Incas were most notable for establishing the Inca Empire in Pre-Columbian America, which was centred in modern day South America in Peru and Chile. It was about 2,500 miles from the northern to southern tip. The civilization lasted from 1438 to 1533.
