The Balcony (Le Balcon) (1868/69) by Edouard Manet is a vintage impressionism fine art portrait painting featuring four figures on a balcony. The one sitting is artist Berthe Morisot, who married Manet's brother Eugène in 1874. In the centre is artist Jean Baptiste Antoine Guillemet. On the right is the violinist Fanny Claus. In the background is a fourth figure, possibly Léon Leenhoff, Manet's son. About the artist: Édouard Manet (1832-1883) was a French impressionist painter and one of the first 19th century artists to approach modern life subjects. Manet was a pivotal figure in the transition from Realism to Impressionism.
