The Art Market is not The Art World Embroidered Hat

Often the dialogue about art centres around the art market. While the market is part of the art world, it isn't THE art world. There are important parts of this world that often get lost when art fairs, art auctions, and galleries get major press. Artists are at the foundation of the art world pyramid. Without them, none of the other parts would even exist. Also, ideas reflected in artworks comment on social issues and are a source of great personal power for their creators. These, too, are important. Let's put "art as a commodity" in its proper place.
