In the early days of the modern queer community, Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland) became an icon - and a code word. If you wanted to know if somebody was gay, you'd ask, "Are you a friend of Dorothy?" But every generation needs their own Dorothy. In the 80s, we got Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur). A strong willed, tough as nails woman, forged in the fires of Mt. Etna in Sicily, with a wit sharpened by years with her idiot ex-husband.
