Texas Longhorn Closeup Postcard
In the early 1800s wild Longhorn cattle could be found throughout Texas. The hearty breed were the result of the unintentional breeding of mixtures of cattle. In the later 1800s ranchers in Texas began fencing off lands and introducing imported breeds. Some breeders kept some original longhorn stock but most leaned towards cattle that fattened up easier.
