The Temple of the Emerald Buddha, known locally as Wat Phra Kaew, is the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand, located within the grounds of the Grand Palace in Bangkok. It houses the deeply revered Emerald Buddha, a small green jasper statue meticulously carved, dressed in gold seasonal robes, and considered the palladium of the Thai kingdom. The main building, or Phra Ubosot, is a stunning example of traditional Thai architecture with a multi-tiered roof, ornate gables, and a richly decorated interior. The walls are covered in extensive murals depicting the life of Buddha and scenes from the Ramakian (Thai version of the Ramayana), creating a visually overwhelming and spiritually charged environment of gold, colour, and intricate details.
