Temperance Tarot Card

Temperance Tarot Card

pencil drawing on 9″×11″ sketchbook paper coloured on computer The cloth/liquid coming out of the jars are wine and water. This is for the Tarot card Temperance and she is supposed to mix the two representing balance. The feather is to represent Maat who judged souls with a feather on a scale. Also, the vessels in the Angel’s hands represent the Golden Crucible of Taoism. The flowers represent the goddess Iris, another messenger goddess who transcends the individual realms. The red wings of the Angel represent blood, life, and that which transcends the death of the individual. The blue in her gown represents water and the green background represents land. The one foot on the land, the other in the water, represents the unification of the external and internal, conscious and unconscious, realms. The tetragrammaton represents one of the names of the God of Israel used in the Hebrew Bible. Maàt was a goddess of justice in Egypt. She ties Judgment with Justice, as she helped judge the souls of the dead. Therefore, on many Tarot cards of Justice, Maat appears.
