Marie Leszczynska was the only Polish princess to become Queen of France. She was chosen primarily because she had no political supporters or a family who could get involved in French politics. She had ten children with her husband King Louis XV, but their marriage was not particularly unhappy and he was frequently unfaithful. Their children took her side and resented the mistresses, and their father's behaviour. On her death she was greatly mourned by the people of France, who had favoured her far more than her husband had.
