King Louis X of France came to the throne on the death of his father Philippe IV. He had been involved in a scandal, in which his wife had been found to be having an affair with a knight.
Louis probably had her murdered, she conveniently died in prison shortly before his marriage to Clementia of Hungary. However he was King for less than two years when he died, possibly from pneumonia possibly from poison. Clementia was pregnant at the time but their baby son, John, died at just 5 days old. Louis' younger brother Philippe thus became King.
