Heinrich II (also known as Henry II) was Holy Roman Emperor and the last of the Ottonian dynasty. He became Holy Roman Emperor after his cousin Otto III died without legitimate male sons. When Heinrich died he and his wife Cunigunde had no children. Historians have speculated that the pair had a chaste marriage, but it's also possible that one of them was unable to have children. As a result a new dynasty, the Salians, claimed the Imperial throne. He was eventually canonised in the 12th century is now recognised as Saint Henry the Exuberant.
