Team Anne of Brittany 2 Inch Round Button

Anne of Brittany was an important heiress, and Queen of France twice over. She married King Charles VIII of France, and thus brought the independent Duchy of Brittany under French control. She and Charles had no surviving children. Under the terms of their marriage when he died in 1498, without a male heir, she had to marry his successor. Sadly for her Charles' cousin became King Louis XII and while he was married he managed to divorce his wife within a year. Anne married him, and while they never had a male heir two of their daughters survived infancy. She died from kidney stones in 1514, aged just 36.
