The Tasmanian Devil Sarcophilus harrisii is the world’s largest surviving carnivorous marsupial, having a pouch to carry the young. They are mainly scavengers feeding carrion but do also hunt wallabies, small mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects. They are called devils because of the fierce noises they make when “squabbling” when eating. This is thought to be a feeding “ritual” rather than aggression. Protect the natural world.
