Takahe Flightless native New Zealand bird Luggage Tag

The Takahe is a flightless bird which is indigenous to New Zealand. It has beautiful colouring, mainly purple, peacock blue, with olive greens and orange. For 50 years the South Island Takahe was thought to be extinct, luckily that was wrong. If you have the time it is a great story of discovery, well worth googling. The North Island Takahe is extinct. I made a mural of 6 birds a few years ago, recently I decided to recreate these designs to share them with a wider audience. I used Koru patterns. The koru (Māori for "loop" is a spiral shape based on the shape of a new unfurling silver fern frond and symbolizing new life, growth, strength and peace. New Zealand has so many wonderful birds, we are lucky to have them.
