Tahrir Square was the focal point of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution against former president Hosni Mubarak. The 18-day revolt centred in the square — led by the young people of Egypt and joined by citizens of all ages, genders, and classes — succeeded in removing Mubarak from power on Friday 11 February 2011, when the president officially stepped down from office. Tahrir Square, with 'democracy anniversary' celebrations and visits from foreign dignitaries, continues to be a symbol of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution. this is the hashtag used by Egyptian revolutionists on twitter during the revolution days -- all the earnings will be donated to the newly formed independent trade unions in Egypt
