Szent Borbála Parish Church Dorog Hungary Design Postcard

In Dorog, is the mining church called Szent Borbála Parish Church (St. Barbara's Parish Church). Saint Barbara is the patron saint of artillery and mining. It was built in 1924. Standing next to it is Dózsa György Primary School, which is now closed. The largest public square in the city, Jubileum Square, is nearby. At around the beginning of the 20th century, Dorog was a major mining centre, connected by rail with Budapest and by canal with the Danube. As the need for coal grew, Dorog developed rapidly. During World War 2, approximately 300 men of Dorog lost their lives. A few years later, mines gradually began closing down. The government planted several factories and Dorog became a town in 1984.
