Stylized Peacocks in Flower Garden Card

In this painting by my mother, two peacocks dance with another on a raised bamboo platform in a flowering garden. This style, described as "Tu-Aunqua", involved drawing out the design on tissue paper, transferring the design onto silk and filling it in with saturated oil colours. My mother learned this detailed approach, marked by the stylized birds and flowers, from her mother. The term itself may have come from a rough phonetic translation of "labour table painting" from Chinese.
