Cézanne painted this work in 1890. Note how he painted the cloth the apples rest on. The colours he used make it seem as if there were lots of folds in the cloth. Note the wall and the table. Neither one is one just one colour. There are lighter colours included with the darker colours. This causes the table to look worn and the wall to look as if it hasn't been painted in a while.
