Poster inspired by a madonna painting by German painter Eduard Steinbrück (Madonna in the workshop door, 1833). Steinbrück's artistic work was rooted in the concepts of the Nazarene movement and the Düsseldorf school. The Nazarenes hoped to return to art which embodied spiritual values, and sought inspiration in artists of the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance, rejecting what they saw as the superficial virtuosity of later art. The work of the Düsseldorf School is characterized by finely detailed yet fanciful landscapes, often with religious or allegorical stories set in the landscapes. Steinbrück's madonna glows with a warmth that is both spiritual and pictorial. The realism of the figures enhances its pathos.
