About This Design

Steamer "City of Erie" 1900 Postcard

Steamer "City of Erie" 1900 Postcard

Built in 1898 by the Detroit Dry Dock Co. in Wyandotte, Michigan for the Cleveland & Buffalo Transit Co. She defeated the steamer Tashmoo in a memorable race on June 4, 1901 between Cleveland, Ohio and Erie, Pennsylvania, winning by 45 seconds. Known as the "Honeymoon Special", she operated in nightly service between Cleveland and Buffalo, NY. She went out of service in 1937.
