St. Peter's Basilica Note Card

Golden rays wash over the Papal Altar of St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. Located directly over the tomb of St. Peter, the altar is covered by the Baldacchino, a bronze canopy created by the famous sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The bronze for this work was taken from the portico ceiling of the Pantheon (Rome’s ancient temple of all the gods), and the window admitting the light was modelled on the Pantheon’s famous oculus.
