St. Mary of Egypt Orthodox Christian Prayer Card

Mary of Egypt was a 6th / 7th century Egyptian Orthodox Christian saint. She left home at age 12 to pursue a life of debauchery, eschewing money for her actions. After 17 years of this life, she travelled to Jerusalem for the Great Feasts of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in order to seduce as many men as possible. When she tried to enter the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, she was barred by an unseen force. Realizing this was because of her actions, she was deeply remorseful and prayed for forgiveness to a statue of the Theotokos outside the church. When she tried to enter the church again, she was let in. After hearing a voice telling her to go to the Jordan and receive rest, she entered the desert. She lived the rest of her life in the desert, praying, fighting and succeeding against her urges and in deep repentance. She is considered one of the greatest saints in the church, a Desert Mother and an icon of remorse and repentance.
