Duvernay, St. Etienne, France, from the designer’s private collection of religious ephemera. The text in French surrounding the saint’s portrait reads: “St. Yves Notre Tres Doux Patron et Defenseur / Priez Pour Nous” which translates “St. Ivo, Our Very Kind Patron and Defender, Pray for Us”. St. Ivo (1253-1303) is chiefly known for his pro bono work on behalf of orphans, unprotected widows, and the impoverished, which earned him the title ‘Advocate of the Poor’.
