St. David's or St. Piran's Day Daffodils (fL) -

NOTE WELL: Both daffodil sprays face LEFT! We offer another set that face right. + The daffodil is the national flower of Wales. Daffodils bloom throughout Wales from late February through early April. Like the leek, it is worn in Wales on St. David’s Day (March 1). While leeks and daffodils seem an odd pairing, in Welsh their names are very similar: Leeks are Cenhinen; daffodils, Cenhinen Bedr or (St.) Peter’s leeks. + The daffodil is also worn in Cornwall but a few days later, on St. Piran’s Day (March 5). In the case of Cornish custom, it is the golden yellow colour of the flower and its early spring flowering that associates it with St. Piran’s Day festivities. The feast’s colour scheme consists of black, white, and gold: black and white for St. Piran’s flag; and gold for the coins on the Duchy’s shield. And, daffodils are carried in procession and laid at the foot of St. Piran’s Cross in the dunes at Perranzabuloe where the Saint first set foot on Cornish soil. + Image Credit (Daffodils): Public Domain.
