About This Design

SRI YANTRA - SANCTUARY TOTE BAG

There is a profound order that pervades the universe. This order stands independent of chaos, space and time. Yet it is mathematically verifiable... as it exists in the form of harmonious number relationships and can be expressed through geometric shapes, patterns and forms. New Zealand artist Jonathan Quintin applies colour to these otherwise invisible principles to produce a series of geometric mandalas. The series includes traditional as well as original designs. The Sanskrit word “mandala” means "circle" or "wheel". In ancient Tantric Hinduism and Buddhism, mandalas were holy diagrams representing the universe and were used in sacred rites and as an instrument of meditation. Nowadays, the word mandala is more widely used to include cosmic diagrams representing various states of universal order. The Sri Yantra is an ancient Hindu mandala that symbolizes the union of opposites and the process of creation. It is believed to represent the primal sound of creation, the AUM.
