Speakeasy Club -- Butte Montana Poster

In 2004, this Speakeasy Club from the 1920's was discovered in the basement of the Rookwood Hotel in Butte, Montana. Butte pretty much ignored prohibition with hard working and hard drinking miners as the primary avocation. There were over 100 illegal drinking establishments in town. But this gem is the finest one outside of Chicago and was featured in a History Channel production called The Big Build. With thick terrazzo tile flooring, stained glass skylights, hardwood mouldings and mythical griffins carved into the ceiling pillars, it's easy to imagine flappers and nattily dressed men cutting it up on the dance floor to a jazz ensemble. Gambling, drinking, dancing and music carried on in the smoke-filled room seven days a week from dusk 'til dawn until Prohibition ended in 1933 and they locked it away until its recent discovery.
