This is looking east from about where the JMT crosses the South Fork of the Kings River before it heads west towards Muro Blanco. The old JMT (before the Golden Staircase down from the Palisade Lakes to Deer Meadow was completed) used to head west here with the the river, but then turn north up into Lake Basin.
