South End of Captain's Bay, Unalaska Island Postcard

Captain's Bay ends in an area of marshlands and streams which converge to create a small river which flows into the bay. In winter the area is beautiful, but hiking in the lowlands at the end of the bay can be treacherous. Near a cluster of tiny islands located in this end of the bay is the wreck of the S. S. Northwestern. The Northwestern was a ship used to house civilian construction workers during WWII. It was sunk near Bunker Hill at the other end of the bay, but it was moved to the south end to make way for a harbour being built near the place where it was originally anchored.
