Sophie Opera Bird Postcard

Sophie Opera Bird is featured in Susan Gainen "Small Friends' Chronicles," a 70-page collection of whimsical creatures' portraits and stories which is available at http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/3479674. My mother’s best friend’s name was Sophia, and she and her husband Gilbert travelled the world to see opera performances. One of their favourite venues was the Santa Fe Opera House in Santa Fe, New Mexico. During several of their visits, they made the acquaintance of Opera Bird Sophie, who nested outside their hotel window and who regularly attended the Opera’s performances. While they would have loved to invite her to visit them in the Maryland home, Sophie Opera Bird was a true native New Mexican bird (one of 500) and absolutely unable to tolerate the temperatures in the Washington DC metro area. Then, too, there was Okobee The Cat, who lived with Sophia and Gilber for more than 22 years. She would not have been keen on Sophie Opera Bird as a visitor – not for a minute.
